What Makes Emberward Special?

Combining Some Favorites

If you haven't already checked out the trailer, or even the thumbnail, Emberward takes the concept of your traditional Tower Defense game, adds in the roguelite aspect that everyone loves so much, but mixes in a bit of Tetris into the pot.

We all know Tetris, but this is a unique position to see Tetris pieces getting placed. During each setup round you've got a few decisions to make. As expected you will need to make a decision on which "towers" you are looking to place, but also where Tetris pieces need to be placed because towers must on top of Tetris pieces. This is honestly one of the better & unique pathing systems I've seen in a Tower Defense game and feels as if it isn't just a mechanic thrown in just for extra points.

I'm a huge roguelike/roguelite fan personally, so Emberward naturally appeals to me because I love the idea of a Tower Defense game where you are meant to lose over and over in order to gain more abilities / towers /etc so that you can progress further on a next playthrough.

Solo Dev

You gotta love it! Another title getting phenomenal numbers with only a single developer working on the title. Taking a look around, not only is Emberward made by just one dev, but this dev has gone through with everything including trailer development, making a press kit, and is keeping the community up to date on socials. Final Thoughts

Taking into account that this is my blog, it makes sense that this is the first game I write about. Emberward scratches so many different itches in a single game. Between the pathing through Tetris pieces and a roguelite in a tower defense... this is exactly what I've been waiting for in a title!

The game is in Early Access right now on steam for $14.99, so the price is definitely not bad for a game where the systems feel really well built. It will be exciting to see what comes from Emberward throughout Early Access, but in the meantime it is very nice to see it doing so well on Steam with almost 650 Overwhelmingly Positive reviews at the time of writing this.
